The small, isolated town of Helensburgh may seem like an odd choice for the location of such an important religious landmark, but it was chosen in 1978 as an abode for Lord Venkateswara and Goddess Lakshmi in accordance with Vedic principles. The temple is built on top of a hilly area 400 feet above sea level.This temple is one of the most popular and impressive Hindu temples in the Southern Hemisphere, drawing visitors and Hindu devotees from all over New South Wales, and the rest of Australia.

According to the Tamil devotional work, “Murugan never hesitates to come to the aid of a devotee when called upon in piety or distress”. Sydney Murugan Temple is the bigest tepmple in the region. The primary object of The Saiva Manram is to provide forum, place premises and or facilities for the worship, prayer, teachings.

Worship at the temple is centered on Shiva and Vishnu, the presiding deities of two dominant streams in the Hindu ritualistic tradition. The temple, built and designed in South Indian – Dravidian architecture, attempts to bring the two streams together and provide a synthesis. The Hindu Society of Victoria (HSV) was founded in 1982 and has a current membership of around 2,000 members. The HSV’s spiritual and cultural precinct was established in 15 acres of land at Carrum Downs, Victoria. Construction of the Shri Shiva Vishnu Temple began thereafter. On completion of the building the temple was consecrated in 1994. This is, now, the largest Hindu temple in the Southern Hemisphere. Devotees in thousands regularly attend its various Pooja Ceremonies and Festival Celebrations each year. Many of them have recorded attendances in excess of 15,000 people.

The organization aims to impart religious, educational and cultural values of Hinduism to our community and future generations.

 SRI VAKRATUNDA PILLAIYAR TEMPLE IN MELBOURNE 6. SRI VAKRATUNDA PILLAIYAR TEMPLE : Sri Vakrathunda Vinayagar temple was the first traditional Hindu temple to be established in Melbourne, 1992. Since then the temple has fulfilled the spiritual and cultural aspirations of thousands of Hindus in Victoria.

This center is the fruit of ardent devotees of Murukan who so desired to build a dedicated temple for their beloved god. The trust to build the temple was formed in 1995, then temple project was launched and the first stage of the temple was completed in January 1999. Currently the statues of Lord Murukan with Teyvanai and Valli and Vinayakar are held in a hall where a resident priest conducts puja and abishekam. Idols of Navagraham are enshrined too. Melbourne Murukan Cultural Center manages this temple and endeavors to build a fully-fledged traditional style temple in the near future. This center attracts devotees from far and wide.
