In Hinduism taking bath in the holy river the Ganga is believed to be necessary for every Hindu. People on different occasions of the Ganga snan take holy bath in it. Taking bath in holy rivers is a ritual for the Hindus and they perform for several reasons. People believe that a single dip in the Ganga washes away sins of a person. At the time of child’s tonsure, hair are shed in the Ganga and after death ashes are also immersed in the Ganga. But after so many rituals or dropping anything in the Ganga, even then the Ganga water does not gets spoil.
The Ganga water comes from the glacier of Gangotri. The place from where the Ganga water comes is full of flora which has the medicinal qualities. It helps to kill all the bacteria from the water and keep it fresh for long period. Scientists have done research on the Ganga water to find out the reason why it does not spoil even if kept for long time. One reason explained by scientists is that a virus called Bacteriophage is found in the Ganga water which kills harmful bacteria of the Ganga water. Another reason the scientists have explained is at various places waterfalls from hot sluphur springs join the Ganga and the sulphur rich water of waterfalls kills the harmful bacteria of the Ganga water. Scientific explanations may be many but holiness of the Ganga is beyond question.
Lakhs of people take bath in the holy Ganga river daily but hardly we hear about any disease. There is no sign of any contagious disease spreading from the Ganga water, although lakhs of people take bath in the river and there is no sign of skin disorders etc. The Ganga has remarkable self cleansing ability which makes it superior to other rivers. The Ganga has the purifying quality more than any other river of the world.
Nature has given many qualities to our rivers like the Ganga. The Ganga water is too pure and does not get spoil easily. Several researches have proved the purifying qualities of the Ganga. In today’s scenario pollutants from industries are spoiling our rivers. Some of them are not existing today but the Ganga is always here for us.
The Ganga water is too pious for the Hindus and most of them always keep some amount of the Ganga water at home. As the Ganga is a holy river for the Hindus and they take bath in it, it is our duty to keep the Ganga clean. There are several rivers which are now not in a good condition because of us only. We should keep our rivers clean not only for the environment purposes but also the nature’s gift should be kept safe for the coming generations. If you spoil these natural rivers then you will lose all benefits which we are receiving.
Nature has given us many valuable things like rivers, lakes, trees & plants of fruits, vegetables, medicinal herbs and so on. It is our duty to keep the environment balanced and clean to get a healthy environment for a healthy future.
